SHOHEI ONO

ARTIST STORY

He uses red clay from Kochi Prefecture, which contains a lot of iron, in his creations.

The chemical reaction between the red clay and the metal in the glaze creates a unique and powerful piece of expression. He digs the soil by himself, spends about a month cultivating the soil. After that he can make pottery, creates his work, and then fires it three or four times to complete.

Beauty of natural chemical reactions

In fact, this method of firing multiple
times is extremely risky, so most artists do not try it. However, he always uses this method and striving to create works with his own unique expression.
For this reason, we can feel that his works have a deep beauty and strength that cannot be found anywhere else.

His masterpiece, “blue ash glaze”- AOHAIYU in Japanese- is created by applying cypress ash. The cypress ash and red clay react to create a beautiful piece of deep blue color.

Also, we have introduced his other works, SHIROGESHOU, KUROGESHOU and KUROSHINO. He researched the iron content in soil and the chemical reaction of glaze. Each reaction creates his own color and expression. The unique metallic look of KUROGESHO is created by using a risky and unique method of lowering the temperature little by little while lighting the fire.

His powerful and beautiful pieces are made
using natural chemical reactions, and they give the user the joy of looking at and touching them.
They are both tableware and art. They are easy to use for everyday cooking, they will add color to your dining table, and they will enrich your time.
