TARO YOSHITA

ARTIST STORY

Born at Kinzangama Kiln, a kiln of Kutani ware, he spent his childhood surrounded by traditional overglazed and gold-glazed pottery. While learning the Kutani craftsmanship of handling gold at the historic Kinzangama Kiln, he was fascinated by the beauty of pottery made from clay, and decided to express himself through creating in a different way from his family business.

Beautiful curves with a variety of overlapping deep tones

His works are characterized by beautiful curved forms, smooth textures, and deep colors expressed through glazes that have been tested thousands of times. The works, which feature matte black, deep overlapping gradations, and white, are all monotone, but they have deep expressions with a variety of overlapping tones.

He says that each color created by nature is a miraculous encounter, and even after testing thousands of times, there are still only a few colors that he is satisfied with. For example, even if the same glaze is used, the expressions created will vary depending on the condition of the wood ash.

Every day, he explores the expressions created by nature, which cannot be controlled by humans. He often creates his works inspired by his favorite clothes and by works made of completely different materials.
