KANAME TAKEGUCHI

ARTIST STORY

When we look at and touch his works, we often feel that rather than earthenware, we feel Western- style tableware or European antique. While drawing on the influence of European antiques, he designs and creates pottery in shapes that he thinks are easy to use and fit Japanese life.

The warm texture and sophisticated form

He keeps around him many things from European antiques to Japanese antiques in his daily life. He often creates his works based on things he uses and sees them every day, as well as on trips to see beautiful retro masterpieces.

What he considers important when creating his works is the warm texture that is unique to ceramics, while also evoking a sophisticated European form. He says that he finds it interesting that he not only incorporates European antiques, but also that he is able to express the world view that he values
through his works.

His works are mainly ivory-colored and dusty gold-colored that each pieces have different flavors. The ivory color uses a transparent glaze to bring out the color of the soil itself. The shimmering surface of it
is reminiscent of the moment before the waves recede and the water soaks into the sand. The dusty gold-colored is reminiscent of rusted metal and he uses the glaze that becomes more lustrous with use is used. It is a work that gives you an antique feel that allows you to enjoy the appearance that changes every day as it ages.

Although he has spent a lot of time facing his work through trial and error, he says that his methods and ideas have not changed at all. When creating pottery, he is always conscious of the balance between beauty and usability, such as beauty of form, ease of holding, and texture. We are convinced that this balance is possible because he takes the time and pay close attention to the parts that are hard to notice.

In his free time, he says he likes working in the garden and being exposed to nature. We have realized that his current work exists because he loves spending time in contact with nature and
beautiful things in his daily life.
